IAI’s new product presentation at MOTEK fair 2009 / Stuttgart (Hall 3, Stand 3355)

The Japanese small electric actuator market leader IAI will be introducing the Mini ROBO Cylinder, an energy efficient replacement for pneumatic systems in the smallest and micro cylinders segment under the tagline of “Green Automation – Go Electric.” In 2008, the ROBO Cylinder entered the market by introducing 34 models of the ROBO Cylinder series RCP3, RCA2 and RCL.

Following the trend of miniaturization, IAI and the new Mini ROBO Cylinders prove that electric cylinders are far more efficient and cost effective than pneumatic cylinders.

The 24V linear motor series RCL is the first choice of the micro cylinders segment (max. speed of up to 1,600mm/s with strokes of 30mm to 288mm). In the past, there were no alternatives to pneumatic cylinders when design engineers set out to search for small electric actuators.

The alternative is now here, and IAI makes the switch from fluid power to electric power a trouble-free and easy process with 24V pulse or servo motor.  In most cases, replacements are just ‘drop-in’ and the actuator controllers make it a breeze to set up.

The new mini RCP3 series are available with separately interchangeable, optional folded pulse motor as slider, table and rod type with slider or ball screw. Depending on the actuator type, widths start from 22mm and strokes start at 25mm and up to 150mm. The maximum load capacities for the mini RCP3 series is up to 6kg.

The most interesting new developments are the extremely space-saving mini rod and mini table types of the RCA2 series. The short RCA2 servo rod types, with or without guide (also double-sided), have a design similar to the compact cylinder series MG of the pneumatic manufacturer SMC. So they can be easily transferred to existing pneumatic systems. The same applies to the extremely slim RCA2 servo table types with small, wide or flat body, which are similar to SMC’s MX or LX series.

The 28-72 mm wide mini rod and mini table types are able to carry horizontal payloads up to 6 kg (vertical up to 1.5 kg) with max. Overall stroke of 30 mm. Only the multi-rod type RCA2-SD with double-guide is available in three stroke versions of 25, 50 and 75 mm.

The maximum values of rated thrust and travelling speed are 101.5 N respectively 270 mm/s (RCA2-SD: 300 mm/s). Depending on drive method the repeatability is ±0.05 mm (slider screw) or ± 0.02 mm (ball screw).

The dedicated controllers for the new RCP3 and RCA2 models reach from the newly developed simple 2-/3-point positioner type (PSEP/ASEP, also with IP53 specification) over a 768-point network module (RoboNet) up to the 1500-point program control type (PSEL/ASEL).

The list prices are in the range of 344 to 676 euro for the mini rod type and of 560 to 672 euro for the mini table type.
